Like your roofing system and siding, your windows are one of the most important features of your home for they protect your family from the harsh elements. If they get broken or shattered during a storm, it’s a must that you have them repaired or replaced as soon as possible. Take note, however, that not all window damage can be detected. If not identified and addressed right away, your home’s structural and foundational integrity could be at risk.
Today, we discuss the three signs of window storm damage that you need to be aware of.
1. Window Leaks
Your windows can sustain storm damage if rainwater is finding its way inside your home even when they are closed. Check them if they have broken or cracked glass. A strong and sudden gust of wind can bend the frames enough to leave small gaps that can allow water to seep in and cause damage to your home’s interior.
2. Windows Not Closing Right
A hailstorm can cause issues not just to your roof and siding but also to your windows. Apart from cracked or shattered glass, you might notice dented or bent frames because of the strong impact of hailstones. This problem can leave you with windows that don’t open or close properly.
3. Torn Window Screens
Look for tears and holes in the window screens as these are also signs of storm damage caused by strong winds and hail. Airborne debris can penetrate the screens, but depending on the strength of the wind gusts, it may or may not also damage the glass.
Following the storm, it’s a good idea to call your homeowner’s insurance company to have an adjuster come out and assess the damage. Then, contact ReNew Home Design for your window replacement.
